Help
Alphabit Studio is a bitmap-first font editor. The guides here are split by workflow so you can jump straight to setup, editing, import/export, or recovery.
Start Here
Getting Started
The shortest path from a blank workspace to a saved or exported font.
Workspace And Windows
How the floating workspace, palettes, previews, and utility windows behave.
Editing Glyphs
Specimen editing, glyph drawing tools, selections, metrics, and kerning.
Importing And Exporting
What the import flows do, what export targets exist, and where loss can happen.
Saving And Recovery
Manual save, autosave, multi-tab sync, and recovery behavior.
Recommended Reading Order
- Getting Started for the basic create, edit, save, and export flow.
- Workspace And Windows for how fonts, palettes, previews, and utility windows behave.
- Editing Glyphs for specimen editing, tools, selections, metrics, and kerning.
- Importing And Exporting for format support and conversion expectations.
- Saving And Recovery for autosave, multi-tab sync, and recovery behavior.
Current Product Shape
- The app uses a floating multi-window workspace and can keep multiple fonts open at once.
- Each font gets its own Characters window and one or more editor or preview windows.
- The editor model is bitmap-first: glyph pixels and shared font metrics are the source of truth.
- Imports normalize source formats into that internal model, so some format-specific metadata is preserved and some is flattened.
- `.alphabit.json` is still the full-fidelity source format for continued editing.
Need Something Specific?
If you are evaluating format support in detail, start with Importing And Exporting. That page carries the public-facing support matrix and the main round-tripping notes.
For general use, the main split is simple:
- `.alphabit.json` is the editable source-of-truth format.
- Bitmap imports are normalized into the editor’s shared bitmap model.
- Some exports are intentionally lossy because the target format is simpler than the editor model.
